TROMBONE
How to Care for a Trombone
Basic care for a student Trombone so home practice stays fair.
Do these every week
- Oil valves / grease slides on a schedule your teacher recommends.
- Empty water keys; don’t run under water unless a tech showed you how for that model.
- Mouthpiece wash with mild soap; avoid boiling plastic rims.
- Dents near valves and stuck slides are shop jobs.
Red flags (take to a shop): cracks, open seams, keys that won’t close, valves that freeze, buzzing that isn’t “student tone,” smell of mold in cases.
