Do these every week

Wipe rosin and sweat off strings and body after playing.
Loosen the bow slightly when packing up.
Never leave in a hot car; glue joints can open.
Replace strings in a set when tone goes dull or tuning is unstable—see our change-strings style tips in shop visits.

Red flags (take to a shop): cracks, open seams, keys that won’t close, valves that freeze, buzzing that isn’t “student tone,” smell of mold in cases.
